Having been at the forefront of online auctions for nearly ten years, auctioning over £500m a
year in renewable electricity and energy certificates, The NFPA Group recently started making its technology available to third parties. In
2011, NFPAS partnered with Nominet, the organisation which runs the .uk Internet infrastructure, to run auctions for
contested new-release short domain names such as aa.co.uk.
NFPAS Auctions designed a bespoke auction platform featuring its unique replication of a real auction room
via a ‘bidding window’ which automatically resets each time a bid is received, thus avoiding the inevitable frantic
rush as timed auctions reach their finish time. The simplicity and transparency of the auction model with no hidden bids or reserves
impressed Nominet's bidders who were representing some of the world's largest brands and corporations. The auction raised £3m
for Nominet with the average co.uk domain reaching almost £5,000, all powered by NFPAS' technology. The net proceeds have been
donated to Nominet Trust for the support of projects that contribute to a safe and accessible Internet for the improvement of lives
and communities around the UK. NFPAS is now exploring new partnerships in other industries.
